Systems
architects typically require a bachelor's or higher degree in information
technology, software engineering, or computer science. College programs
typically provide courses covering a variety of operating systems and hardware
compatibility training.
A
master's degree is usually required to specialize in systems architecture. Some
employers may prefer candidates for Business Administration in Information
Systems. Graduate programs include advanced computer architecture theory,
systems design, project management, and software engineering. Some colleges
also offer graduate-level certification programs in systems architecture to
complement graduate education. Courses are similar to those of the master's
degree program, but certificate programs may require less time and fewer
requirements.
